One of my interests is in the application of NMR spectroscopy and molecular modeling to the structure and dynamics of small and large molecules. Recent work includes mechanism of ring-contraction reactions, fluxional behavior of benzazepines, synthesis and characterization of certain sulfones, and modeling the observed reaction pathways. In the area of education, particularly educating future science teachers, we have formed a collaboration with in-service teachers to carry out project-based hands-on experimental methods in the classroom and bring the experiential learning to our aspiring teachers and improve teaching methods. Currently I am an active investigator/director in two grants – one is focused on training K-12 science teachers and the other one is focused on course redesign in gateway courses.
